Suitability assessment – Wearer-related factors
Many factors need to be considered when selecting a suitable respiratory protective device (RPD) for a particular situation. As part of the RPD suitability assessment, wearer related factors should be considered such as (but may not be limited to):
- Is there sealing surface area potential interference such as facial hair (stubble, beards, moustache, sideburns), deep facial marking, facial jewelry or something else? (Step 8.1)
- Are corrective lenses worn/required? (Step 8.2)
- Are other types of personal protective equipment (PPE) worn (e.g. head, eye and hearing protection, protective clothing, etc? (Step 8.3)
- Has the wearer been medically cleared to wear RPD? (Step 8.4)
